Baptism
What is baptism?
The Sacrament of Baptism is a gracious act of God in which God's love is made visible. This gift is God's promise to us, proclaiming our adoption by grace - and our promise to God that we will respond in faith and love. It also involves making a promise to love and supor one another as we see to live our discipleship vows together in the community of faith.
In Baptism, God welcomes us into Christ's holy church, receives us into the story of salvation, and gives birth to us in a new way by water and the Holy Spirit. The person being baptized rejects the power of sin and evil, proclaims their faith, and begins their journey as a disciple of Jesus Christ. The local church welcomes the baptized person into the membership and promises to accompany them on their journey of faith.
Who can be baptized:
As a United Methodist congregation, Damascus UMC baptizes people of all ages, including infants. We do not "re-baptize" anyone who has already received the sacrament, because United Methodist recognizes baptism as God's holy and loving action. As such it is fully effective and sufficient.

Membership

Cemetery
The Damascus United Methodist Cemetery is owned by the Church. As a member of the Church, one may purchase burial space in the Cemetery, up to 8 lots per head of household. Ownership is divested to heirs of the original owner. For inquiries about the cemetery contact the office.
