We are committed to providing a loving and safe environment where all children can experience the love of Jesus Christ, learn about discipleship, and grow with God. Many opportunities are available for children, and Damascus UMC follows a Safe Sanctuary Policy.
Director of Children's Ministries and Pleasant Plains Preschool
The nursery at Damascus UMC is located downstairs by the side entrance to the sanctuary/parlor. Certified staff are trained in Safe Sanctuary policies and are available during Sunday worship services and Sunday School for children ages 6 months - 3 years old.
Each September, Damascus UMC presents students in the third grade with their own Bibles during worship. Contact Cora Horst for more information about this special time. For Fall 2019, Bibles will be presented on Sunday, Sept. 22.
We welcome all of God's children into our Sunday School program. We recognize that some children need a little extra care; and so, we have a team of adults who are ready to accompany any child with special needs.
Children in 2nd-5th grades and their parents are invited to join our Learning about Communion Classes held seasonally. The class includes five one-hour sessions and both the child and his/her parent/guardian attend each session.
Each class is limited to 10 families. A commitment to attend all five sessions is important and will help to make the experience more meaningful to your child.
The children have lots of fun learning about communion, making commemorative banners, and even making home-made bread that is used in the final session when the class celebrates communion on the altar. For more information contact the church office or Cathy Scarbrough (301) 972-6844.
